Pompompurin Café in Harajuku
Location
The Pompompurin Café is located right in the heart of Harajuku on Takeshita Street, one of the busiest shooping streets in Tokyo. It’s on the third floor and tucked away a little, so it’s hard to see from the street. You can oriantate yourself on the Sanrio Store that’s right underneath and then just take the stairs to the right of the Sanrio Store.
Opening Hours & Reservations
The café is open everyday from 10am to 7pm. Unfortunately you can’t make a reservation via the website, so I suggest going really early. I was there right at 10 in the morning and there was no line. You also have to remember that the Pompompurin Café is on a really busy and touristy street, that gets espcially busy in the evening and on the weekend.
Food & Experience
The food offered is a variety of sweet and savoury dishes as well as adorable looking drinks, all with Pompompurin. The flavours are nice, but like all character cafés it’s more on the pricey side compared to regular places. An omlet with rice for example is around 11$/10€. You can also get your picture taken with the Pompompurin figurine in the center of the café, which costs another 550円.
Peanuts Café - Sunny Side in Harajuku
Location
The Peanuts Café is also located in Harajuku right next to Takeshita Street. It’s a little nestled away when you follow the side street across from daiso. You can also get there, when you walk into the building where Uniqlo and Ikea are and then turn left to walk back out.
Opening Hours & Reservations
The café is open everyday from 9am to 9:30pm. You can make a reservation right when you google the café. I also went there a couple of times and it was never exceptionally busy and I never needed a reservation to get a table. This was fairly early in the day and not on the weekend, so you should make a reservation, if you want to go in the evening or on the weekend.
Food & Experience
The Peanuts also have a variety of sweet and savoury dishes, but not all of them are Peanuts themed. I especially enjoyed the popcorn tea, just because it’s such an interesting concept. I’m also a big fan of the french toast, which is around 11$/10€. Again, more on the pricey side. You can also shop for some Peanuts merch, like shirts, mugs, bags and much more.
Kirby Café in Solamachi
Location
The Kirby Café is located in Solamachi very close to the Tokyo Skytree. It’s part of the Solamachi Shopping Mall. There are a lot of escalators and it took me a while to find it, but it’s pretty much next to one of the entrances on the first floor.
Opening Hours & Reservations
The café is open everyday from 10am to 10pm. You have to make a reservation, if you want to eat here and you can do that on their website. There is an english version, so no worries. It’s booked fairly in advance, but I noticed if you check constantly, tables for the same or the next day suddenly become available.
Food & Experience
I love Kirby, so this was particularly fun. All food is Kirby themed and I personally think the largest menu I’ve seen in any character café. They offer asian, but also western food. like burgers or pizza. You can also order a couple of adorbale desserts and drinks. All in all, this was one of my favourite places for kawaii food. But I have to say that it is not easy to get a table.
Kirby Café - The Store in Solamachi
Location
Kirby Café – the Store is also located in the Solamachi Shopping Mall. If you explore the mall, you’re bound to bump into it. It is nice that they offer this alternative if you’re not successfull in getting a reservation at the actual Kirby Café.
Opening Hours & Reservations
The store is open everyday from 10am to 9pm and you of course don’t need any kind of reservation to go.
Food & Experience
The menu is small and basically only offers a couple of items, so it’s kind of a consolidation prize, if you can’t get the real thing, but it’s still really cute. You can choose from four different drinks that are all really colorful and fun to take out. They don’t offer any food.
